Most people, has a basic list of about 50 or 60 favorite foods they like to eat over and over.  Your mom has already trained your palate; your favorite foods are based on Home Cooking. In your lunch bag, are sensible, fist sized amounts!  You can control the calorie intake by carefully considering this poster.

The  active  person eats approximately three meals a day. 
One fist is One Snack a day.   You need Five Fists of Fruits or Vegetables in a day to look swimsuit ready by the end of the summer. If you took a plate, put on it One fist of meatOne fist of bread or starches i.e. rice or spaghetti,  One fist each of a vegetable or fruit to total 3 fists , the fist  method would keep you from overloading your caloric intake.   The idea is that you eat three fists of Vegetables or Fruits at Dinner, and Two fists of Vegetables or Fruits at Lunch: and maybe even two fists of fruits or Vegetables at Breakfast. That should keep you from filling up on junk!!! In any case the fist is a great visual aid; you can use it for calculating cups of liquid and canned goods as well. You do not have to be doing the math, counting the calories, weighing the portions.
